Unswept Floor Mosaic

The unswept floor mosaic is ready in the studio
The Unswept Floor mosaic is completed in the studio on mesh. It is easy to see the lines along which it will be cut for transport. These are invisible once the mosaic is grouted. @Helen Miles Mosaics

This mosaic is based on a famous Roman design of an unswept banquet floor. (Please read more about the ancient design and its contemporary variations in this blog post.) The commission was for an ‘unswept floor’ to be installed in a kitchen which would reflect the life of the home owner – a shell to represent her travels, a pen to signify her work as a writer and so forth. One of the original Roman unswept floors was used as the inspiration for the mosaic, but the design was entirely reworked and adapted for its contemporary role.
