  1. Dear Mrs. Miles,
The mosaic ‘Faces. Mosaic 9. Delos, Greece.’ is great.
Do you know when it was made and where it can be found?
It seems part of a much larger work. Do you have a picture of the whole?
I am specially interested in the development of the use of color in mosaics.
A am a visual artist and my internet-site is under construction.
But you can find me on internet all the same if you want. Just type: struycken peter will do.
    Kind regards,
    Peter

    1. Hello, Peter. Thank you for getting in touch. Yes, the mosaic is a detail from a 2nd century house known as the House of Dionysos on the island of Delos in Greece. The complete mosaic shows the god Dionysos riding a panther as it is popularly labelled although it’s stripes suggest a tiger to me! I dont seem to be able to add an attachment to this message but the full mosaic can be seen by following this link: http://ancient-greece.org/archaeology/delos.html. I would be very interested to know how you discover about the use of colour in mosaics. There is a lot to be said on the subject including the use of glass which must have made the original mosaics very bright.
