We will start with a short overview of the various methods, approaches and possibilities of mosaic making before focusing on the techniques of the art including materials, tools, and adhesives. You will then work on your own mosaic on mesh, choosing from a selection of pre-prepared templates. The mesh method is a versatile approach to mosaics which can be adapted for indoors and outdoors and works for mosaics of any size or shape. The workshop will include a demonstration on how to install and grout your completed mosaic and you will take home small bags of tile adhesive and grout to complete the process at home.
What’s included: A selection of Winckelmans ceramic and vitreous glass tiles, design, mesh, base, adhesives, course notes and teas/coffees/biscuits.
What to bring: An apron or big shirt and a shallow box to take your work home.
This four-hour workshop is part of a series of events being held to coincide with Between the Lines, an exhibition organised by the Scottish Branch of the British Association for Modern Mosaic. The exhibition is being held at Old Gala House, Galashiels from March 28 to May 30, 2020.
